Rocky Avalos - Bio
Born & Raised in L.A., with Mexican and Salvadorian heritage, I am an artist inspired by the context, textures, cultures, and histories people leave in everyday life and in film, TV, & media. I graduated from UCLA in Art, where I began doing costume design, production design, and fashion. I love film and photography archives and film programming. And I love vintage art, illustration, animation, music, makeup, and style, which all have inspired my design and art practices.

The basis of the White Figure was an all white scarecrow with chains that embodied the Black queer protagonist’s fears of coming out. I brought in the influences of Marvel’s Venom, knowing the director had a love for comics, and influences of plantation work and colonialism for how the character felt restrained. This is the lookbook I made for the character while incorporating several points of reference from the director.
